The original Solo Leveling manhwa (comic) ended years ago, and there’s no new anime yet. That’s why its sequel, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, is getting super popular. It just started its second season in Korea, and the English version comes back this November.
Even though the creator, Chugong, called it a “spin-off” and not a true sequel, fans keep reading. Ragnarok is gaining more readers every day. Best of all, it’s fixing one of the biggest problems from the first series.
The Big Fix: Better Side Characters
People often complain that Solo Leveling has weak side characters. The story focuses too much on the main guy, Sung Jin-woo. Cool characters like S-rank hunters (super strong fighters) such as Baek Yoonho, Choi Jong-in, and even top-level ones like Liu Zhigang and Thomas Andre don’t get much attention.
They mostly just show up to make Jin-woo look better or get beaten easily. This makes the story feel unbalanced—those “unbeatable” S-ranks turn into weaklings who don’t matter much.
But Ragnarok changes that! It spotlights other characters, like the heirs to the Monarchs (powerful beings). Sung Suho (Jin-woo’s son) uses a “bond skill” to team up with folks like Esil. In season 2, the S-rank hunters finally get respect and real action.
Upcoming Arc: S-Rank Hunters Get Their Redemption
Recent chapters hint at a big event like the old Jeju Island arc an S-rank gate (dangerous portal) pops up over Seoul. But chapter 62 shows it’s different this time.
Suho gives the S-rank hunters shadow weapons and powers them up with his Shadow Creation ability. They can now fight the gate together as a team.
In the original, S-ranks were just victims or helpless. Now, they remember their past failures (from an alternate timeline) and feel bad about not helping enough without Jin-woo. They’re worried since he’s not around.
This highlights the difference: Jin-woo works alone and doesn’t need help. Suho leads, shares power, and fights as equals. This teamwork goes beyond the gate it’s key for battling the big bad guys, the Itarim.
It’s exciting to see these hunters with unique skills shine! The original had great side characters but wasted them. Ragnarok is finally using them right.
